Jaleesa is a Lebanese based award winning non-profit tech based start up that empowers women to join the workforce by connecting families to trusted child-care providers. We worked closely with the client to bring an accessible and flexible platform to life.
In this role, I collaborated one-on-one with the client to build user personas and conduct comprehensive user research and interviews. I led the UX/UI design efforts in partnership with the branding team to ensure the platform maintained a consistent brand language, look, and feel. By utilising techniques such as information architecture and wireframing, I drove the end to end design process which aided in avoiding creating design debt, and confirmed solutions quickly. Additionally, I worked with outsourced developers to draft specifications and ensure the accurate implementation of the product.
Families in Lebanon lacked an accessible way to connect to vetted child-care providers, and women needed more opportunities.
At the core of this platform a simple flexible booking process that allows parents input their specific needs combined with an intuitive tool for sitters to input their availability was needed.
Building trust between families and sitters was indeed a challenge. Establishing a brand and a platform that could foster mutual trust between two parties is complex and even more challenging when a child is involved. Finding the right balance between Jaleesa’s core values and the transparency between sitter and family was something we had to weave into every step of the process.
With in-depth user research and close collaboration with our client, we developed a system that vets sitters as they build their profiles. We also integrated a messaging service between sitters and families and created a simple yet flexible booking process that allows parents to input their specific needs. This approach fostered trust between sitters and families, ensured parents felt secure about their childcare choices, and facilitated meaningful connections between both parties.
What I enjoyed most about this project was its mission and values. As a designer, it's easy to get caught up in the routine tasks, but working on something that has the potential to make a positive impact, especially in empowering women, was truly fulfilling. It was a fantastic opportunity to apply my design skills while communicating a meaningful message and fostering trust. However working with an out-sourced developer meant limited communication, so I learned to draft specifications in a way that could be done without endless clarification calls.
“Cat brought a sense of perspective to the complex process of finding and booking the right babysitter. Cat helped us shortcut to a more visual, natural experience, led from the customer's perspective. We really enjoyed working with them, and learned a lot from the process.”
